A Distraction

The rain had caught her off guard that day. Erin could usually sense when the sky was about to fall but not that day, she had too many things on her mind bothering her. She entered one of the pubs looking for shelter and some alcohol to keep her warm.

She went to the counter and ordered a pint and a shot of whiskey, her poison of choice. The bartender served her and she looked around, looking for a place to sit. One of the armchairs were apparently free, so she asked to tall and dark-haired man sitting beside it, “Excuse me, is this place taken?”

Loki looked up to see a young dark-haired woman standing next to him. Her pale skin shone in the dimly lit pub, accenting her dark eyelashes and stunning eyes. Although he couldn’t tell what colour they were, he was immediately struck with a sense of being laid bare by her gaze.

Smiling, he gestured to the chair opposite him. “No, you are most welcome to it.”

“Thank you. No wonder the pub is crowded at this hour, everyone is running away from the awful London weather. What I wouldn’t give to be at home hiding under the blankets now,” she said sipping the beer then the whiskey. “I’m sorry, my name is Erin. Please forgive me if I talk too much, I blame my Irish blood.”

Loki simply nodded. “It is good to meet you, Erin.” He took a sip of his beer and winced. “I will have to agree with you; these people are certainly not here for the quality of the liquor.”

A Distraction

The sky was dark and the rain heavy as Loki Laufeyson made his way through the crowds of mortals hurriedly seeking shelter. He sighed. He usually enjoyed his infrequent detours to Midgard; it was a pleasant escape from the monotony of his life on Asgard, the never changing routines and flat personalities of his companions. Midgard was the exact opposite. Bursting with life and spontaneity, the planet of mortals never failed to amuse him.

But today he couldn’t seem to find anything that held his interest long enough to take a second glance.

On a whim, he decided to follow the crowd of rowdy mortals into a dingy-looking pub. Taking a quick look around, Loki decided he might stay for a pint or two.
